School Tour to Bragan Bog in 2014

Picture
This year, Third and Fourth Class went on school tour to Sliabh Beagh, an area of wild and natural beauty in North Monaghan.

It was an opportunity to explore this unique habitat and special area of conservation as part of their Green Schools` study on Biodiversity.

The planned activities included:

  • Pond Dipping
  • Water Testing
  • Examination of sphagnum moss, the bog builder
  • Identifying peatland plants and flowers
  • Bird Watching
  • Turf Cutting
  • Discovering the preservative powers of peat

But these highly-motivated and curious pupils discovered much more as you`ll read in their reports and see in the photos!
